This special session of the VanBrewers BJCP Study Group is at Big Rock, upstairs in our usual club meeting space.
This session will be a deep dive into what you need to pass the upcoming Mead Exam. Priority will be given to those already registered for it, and people who have taken the BJCP Mead entrance exam. You do not have to be an existing beer judge to qualify, but it will help a lot. With a good amount of judging experience under your belt, this single session will likely get you what you need to pass.
Study Group Details
What is it?
This is a study group that aims to increase our local pool of BJCP-accredited judges, nurture skill development in ranking judges, and assist judges looking to increase their rank.
Who’s it for?
Priority will be given to those already registered for the upcoming Mead Exam and/or people who have taken the BJCP Mead entrance exam.
What can I expect?
It's $20 to attend (simply to cover mead costs). We'll cover tasting mead, mead styles, the basic exam format, and what you need to pass. We'll taste one mead with varying acid/tannin/sweetness additions, and 4-6 others depending on how many attend, with at least two score sheets.
What should I bring?
You'll want to have your own copy of the BJCP mead guidelines available. It's also helpful to bring a notebook and a pen to take notes.
How much does it cost?
$20 per person
Who’s running it?
Dave Shea (Certified Beer Judge, Certified Cicerone®) got tired of waiting for this to happen so he's making it happen. Collaborators, presenters, and co-conspirators welcomed.
